Jeremy T. Thissell

Jeremy T. Thissell has experience in patent preparation, prosecution and litigation across a broad range of technologies. For example, Mr. Thissell has experience in medical devices, construction equipment, motor vehicles, aeronautics, battery construction and other mechanical systems, as well as electrical systems, business methods and computer software. Mr. Thissell has advised clients regarding freedom to operate, infringement and due diligence issues and managed clients’ prosecution portfolios, including U.S., foreign and international applications. Mr. Thissell has substantial experience conducting late stage U.S. Patent Office prosecution, including preparation of Appeal Briefs and Reply Briefs and conducting Oral Hearings at the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
Mr. Thissell has also successfully represented several disabled U.S. military veterans on a pro bono basis in their appeals to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Thissell was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for over five years. As an examiner, Mr. Thissell reviewed patent applications for medical devices. Before joining Plumsea, he was an attorney at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, L.L.P.
Mr. Thissell is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to practice in Virginia. Mr. Thissell is also a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
As an undergrad at Renssalaer, he played varsity basketball for all four years, and was Team Captain in his senior year. A versatile player, he played point guard, shooting guard, and small forward during the most successful basketball season in school history, as the team made it to the sweet 16 of the national NCAA Div. III basketball tournament. He continues to be active in multiple sports, competing in a local adult basketball league and coaching his three children’s basketball and soccer teams.
